I received a response to my LOA question.

“The Race to Mackinac Committee has decided to change the LOA rule from 27 feet to 26 feet. ”  www.cycracetomackinac.com

Looks like we might have the opportunity to race. Hopefully the LOA rule stays in place for the 104th running of the event (summer 2012).
