A message from Michael Wagner
I’m so excited – I can finally use the words “medal count” and NERYC in the same sentence.
Our Junior Sailing Race Team attended Indian Landing Boat Club’s Annual Junior Regatta today at their beautiful setting on the upper Severn river, just north of Annapolis. Our NERYC sailors did a fabulous job today, and the medal count was awesome –
Will Sernyak took FIRST PLACE in the Laser Radial Class.
Iain Shand took FIRST PLACE in the Opti Blue Class, and SECOND PLACE in overall Opti RWB.
Ian Ronald, who just advanced up to the Opti White Class took THIRD PLACE in Opti White.
Pearce Bragaw took THIRD PLACE in the Opti Green Fleet.
Also noteworthy: Skylor Sweet took fourth place in the Opti Green Fleet, and Gray Dinsel, attending his first away regatta ever took fifth place. Gavin Bogdan, a new NERYC Junior Member also attended today as his first away regatta ever.
As a side note, when I picked up Rachel this evening back at NERYC (she didn’t race today, as this was one of her weeks working as a counselor for sail camp), she said to me on the way home: “I think the Opti Race Team will be double its size next year. There are a lot of really good kids who are interested in joining”.
Suddenly our new 11-boat trailer seems small.
