SpinSheet Century Club
If you are wondering why I am tracking my days on the water, I am trying to become a member of SpinSheet’s Century Club by December 31.
Here are the rules:
- Track your days. This is a group of honest folks, but we recommend keeping track using a loose leaf notebook or online calendar.
- It’s not just about sailing. Go windsurfing, paddleboarding, kayaking, powerboating, anything that involves watercraft. Count days on other peoples’ boats. Swimming, however, does not count.
- It’s Not Just About the Bay. Test other waters. It’s summer vacation, after all.
- 10 days working the on boat count as days on the water. Boat on the hard? She still needs some love and attention. Go visit her. And see #2.
- Just get the boat off the dock. We’re realists here, we know some days the main doesn’t even go up due to lack of wind or other unforeseen issues. Still count the day.

Day 10 on the water – 90 more to reach goal.

Lots of progress made today
I believe I have all the water out of the fuel tank. Installed new 10 micron fuel filter with clear bowl to watch for water in filter. Reinstalled carbs and they seem to have stopped dripping fuel. Discovered section of fuel line which was collapsing and restricting fuel flow.
Now I just need to adjust the wide open timing and I think we will be ready for the summer.
35 knts @ 4000 RPMs

Day 9
Emptied fuel filter and 90% water. Purchased 5 gallons from gas station to get me to fuel dock. Added 16 gallons at gas dock.
Engine ran up to 4100 RPMs out to 695 bridge. Shut down engine and restarted. Would not idle smooth and run above 1000 RPMs without stalling. Eventually responded to throttle and revved to 4100 at 35+ knts.

Day 7 on the water
Started the day changing fuel filter on whaler which was almost all water. Engine ran very smooth after replacing filter. However, Outboard would only rev to 3100 and 25knts.

Day 6 and 3rd time sailing Laser this year
Why should the kids have all the fun.?Decided to pull the Laser out from below the deck and have some fun while Alex and his friends are at NERYC Sailing Team practice.
On the way home we picked up a RC sailboat off craigslist.

Day 5 on water

Started the day sanding a sliding door from the trawler and then headed to St. Michaels Maritime Museum for the 50 anniversary party. Met up with the Eller’s on Swim Lessons – their Catalina 42. Enjoyed running around on their dinghy STAN and running the RC powerboat to the enjoyment of everyone eating at the Crab Claw.

Day 4 on the water

I thought we would do a simple tune up on the motor.
Ended up:
- Adjusting timing
- Idle adjustment
- Flipping throttle remote so level does not hit console
- Adjusting tach – was reading 200 high
- Ran out of fuel and added 5 gallons. Looks like water in bottom of tank.
Accelerated great from idle but would only run up to 3500 RPMs and 29knts. Top carb leaking fuel on bowl side, lower carb seems to be flooding.
