Sydney can tie a Bowline…
But she creates a disaster in the cabin. Her stuff is everywhere.
Lesson learned – do not place you sunglasses on top of the spinnaker or they will ended up packed in the chute.

Chris at the helm

Important lessons Chris learned today:
- The difference between a gybe and a tack
- How to tie a Bowline
- You have crew to communicate your intention with your crew when you are at the helm of a keel boat – a little different then a Laser
- Bring sunglasses if you are trimming the spinnaker

Learning to tie a Bowline
DSC_0018, originally uploaded by hergan family.
By the end of today’s sailing adventure – everyone should know how to tie a Bowline. I am interested to see if they can do it next time.

John at the helm
Meeting interesting people is one of the best parts of sailing. John joined our crew for the first time. A transplant from the midwest who learned to sail in Lightnings on the Mississippi River.

Double Impeller failure ends hopes of racing today
Just a mile from the club, the overheating alarm sounded and we shut down the engine. At first, I thought we just picked up a piece of trash in the intake but it was the impeller. After a lot of effort, we finally were able to remove the old impeller but the spare fell apart during installation. Unfortunately, the second spare impeller was sitting in my car back at the yacht club. We decided to start sailing and raised the main and spinnaker to get to the starting area but the winds were not favorable and it became mathematically impossible to make the start. We decided to just sail around and let the kids have fun and run the boat.
